My name is Madison Maichin and I am a student-athlete at Thompson Rivers University. I am currently in my third year of the Bachelors of Science in Nursing, where I am also a member of the varsity women’s volleyball team, competing at the highest level in Canada. Through my intercultural and international experiences along the way, I have learned valuable life-lessons that I will carry into my nursing goal of becoming a disaster nurse, particularly to continue learning about global health and to provide culturally competent care.

As a young kid, I have enjoyed travelling and learning about new cultures. For instance, I have relatives from Mexico, Peru, and Germany that would always fascinate me when talking about their childhood, as they would show me photos of where they are from. This is what sparked my interest in visiting the beautiful places on this Earth and to learn from all those who work, live and play within it.
