Work Experience
Below I explain the Category D: Global Competency Employment Activity that I obtained through Interior Health. I completed over 250 hours in 2023 as an infection prevention and control hand hygiene observer, where I advanced my knowledge in cultural and global content by mainly educating staff on the importance of preventing communicable diseases. This experience allowed me to promote health equity by ensuring effective infection control practices, while advocating and bringing awareness that relates to global health challenges.
In my previous role as an infection prevention and control hand hygiene observer with Interior Health, I gained experience that directly supports global competency development. In this position, I educated healthcare staff of different positions and backgrounds at various facilities in the region. This allowed me to communicate health practices in a clear and culturally sensitive way, which is an essential skill for global health work. My role also involved developing hand hygiene compliance reports, which required analyzing data and making it accessible to the public, to increase awareness and infection prevention practices. I also created educational infographics about respiratory etiquette, where I ensured that the visuals were culturally inclusive. This job position allowed me to create data-informed reports about global health initiatives, especially in preventing the spread of communicable diseases. Furthermore, I have built the skills to contribute to global training programs, health policies, and initiatives aimed at improving hygiene standards worldwide, particularly in addressing global health challenges such as pandemics. Overall, my training in infection prevention, data analysis, education, and multicultural communication has prepared me to effectively contribute to global health competency and development.
